Oh wow. So we finally have a picture of a black hole! Amazing. And scary. Here’s a force of nature that mankind cannot cope with. Ever. All the nukes in the world would be snuffed out if we even tried. I’m not particularly religious, but that smacks of the hand of God. Just. Wow. On the domestic front, we’re wrapping up the Spring semester. It’s … Continue reading Black Hole
So, with my usual quick response reflex — here I am posting about the New Year on Jan 25. 🙂 Not much, really, to note so far. Just going through the daily grind. As per last semester, the only time I really feel alive is when I’m in class. The rest of the time, I feel like I’m marking time. I dunno…but I have to … Continue reading New Year
…and the journey goes on… We’re heading in to Fall Break (which always messes me up). But maybe, just maybe, I’ll have a chance to get caught up a little. But I’m leaning toward doing nothing at all today. Kind of a strange week. I had midterms for two classes, but wound up putting off the third ’till next week. The College of Business and … Continue reading Fall Break
So, I’m still working on creating an ‘Advanced System Administration’ class, and have been casting about for topics to include. I think building around the philosophy of DevOps might prove to be the answer. I did a search for DevOps tools, thinking ‘labs,’ and found this. More stuff than I ever thought existed… If anyone has any ideas, I’d love to hear them. I’d like … Continue reading I thought this was neat
Well, the semester has gotten off to a good start, in spite of a couple of warring construction workers. Classes are going well, and I’m having a ball. I keep telling my students that if you’re having fun, it ain’t work….and I’m trying to make it fun. I get to teach some really cool stuff, which makes things easier on that front. I’m not sure … Continue reading So, We’re Off!
So, we’re back about to go at it. Classes start next week. And I can’t wait! This summer’s been a drag. I made some big changes in my life; but sometimes change can be painful. Oh well…as long as you wake up looking down at the grass (as opposed to up), I guess it’s all good. I’m looking at a [relatively] easy semester this Fall, … Continue reading Into the Breech
Well, a lot’s happened since my last post. I don’t know if I mentioned it earlier, but I decided to drop out of ‘doctor school.’ Many reasons, but ultimately, I decided I enjoy having a life too much. After five college degrees, I think enough is enough. And, besides, I really am not interested in conducting research and preparing/defending a dissertation. So. Since March, when … Continue reading July 2018
What an odd week this has been. I didn’t realize that Spring Break this year lasted the entire week. I don’t recall that ever happening before; and am not sure I like it. The time off was nice, but 10 days is a long time for students to forget what you’ve been trying to teach them. Add to that the fact that I’ve been playing … Continue reading Spring Break
So, I just got done working through tonight’s CSCI 1720 lab. I’d forgotten how much work I’ve put into this. It’s a [I think] really good introduction to the Bootstrap CSS framework. Arguably, BS is the most popular framework…and rightfully so, IMO. You get so much ‘out of the box.’ From typography to responsiveness, it’s a really cool technology. This class is ridiculously fun. Content … Continue reading OK…Wow
So, the new couch is due in today. Yay! I liked the old one, right up until the frame somehow got bent, and the right-side recliner doesn’t work anymore. I fiddled with it for a while, but the thing just sticks out there, being a pain in the butt I went to Grand Home Furnishings [or whatever they call themselves…it ought to be ‘Ramsey Furnishings,’ … Continue reading New Couch!
