Sitting here on a lazy Sunday, hoping to hear from my kid. Sometimes, you get a little contemplative, and, at least in my case, wonder what it’s all about. I still don’t know. I have a good, if lonely, life. I enjoy my job, and having meaningful interactions with my students. I have a comfortable, if empty, home. A new TV! This thing is awesome! … Continue reading ….aannnnnd Life goes on
Father’s day is a kind of tough time for me, for many reasons about which I don’t care to elaborate. But Mom and I had a nice time. We drove to Asheville and ate at Brisilia Churrasco Steakhouse (again). It’s becoming a tradition for us. Her 79th birthday is Monday, so I got her check and she got mine. If you’ve never experienced a Brazilian … Continue reading Father’s Day
Well, hello everyone! I know, I know….it’s been, like, forever since I posted here. I’ve just had a lot going on, is all. Between an overloaded course schedule, a new class, and starting ‘doctor school,’ I’ve been pretty blown away. We’re getting ready to leave for Asheville, to enjoy our Thanksgiving repast at Brasilia Churrasco Steakhouse. They have the most awesome food! And all you … Continue reading Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi all! I hope everyone had as splendid a holiday break as we did. Chéz Ramsey hosted a magical Christmas Day, with Mom and John, and a super Christmas dinner. If anyone’s wondering, my ‘big’ Christmas present was a firepit from Mom. Now, I guess, I have to get that backyard patio finished this spring. 🙂 As I said in the linked post above, I … Continue reading Holiday Ruminations
I remember when I was eleven years old, a friend of the family and neighbor in married student housing in Clemson took me to see Star Wars. I left in awe. Awe of the story, the effects, the sheer wonder of it all…and especially the music! Who would have thought then how much of an impact the franchise would have on not only the movie … Continue reading Goin’ to see Star Wars!
I just learned about a new attack against the WordPress platform. The gist of it is that attackers are using XML-RPC to conceal massive brute force attempts to log in to the backend. Since I’m pretty sure none of my plugins uses XML-RPC, I took the author’s advice and promptly renamed my xmlrpc.php file. I did some basic testing to make sure that didn’t break … Continue reading WordPress-ers Beware!
Been a while since I’ve checked in here. Lots going on, as always, and yet, I’ve felt that I have little to say. I’m on the downslide to the half-century mark, age-wise, and I’m feeling somewhat philosophical about it all. Half-a-hundred years I’ve been roaming this planet, yet I’ve seen merely a fraction of it that I’d like to. I’m happy with life, for the … Continue reading Sooooo… I don’t know…
I know my Massachusetts cousin, David Webster, is laughing at me at the moment. We here in east Tennessee are smothered under a whopping 4 inches of snow. Almost paralyzed, we are, while up north, they’re shrugging off feet of it. Heh. Oh well, at least we’re staying warm. My kennel pup has positively grown used to living in the garage while the cat has … Continue reading Crazy Weather
There’s been a lot going on here at Casa Ramsey. Crazy times… good news, bad news. Car wrecks and romance. I’ve met someone I really like. We’ve been out a few times now, and things are really clicking between us. Finally. Oh! And she’s really pretty, too 🙂 For the first time in close to a decade, I’m thinking about what to do on Valentine’s … Continue reading Crazy Times
