So I’ve been tweaking the theme for the site today, trying for a new look. I’m pretty pleased with the result. You may note the new QR Code in the upper left-hand corner. This is the address to my Bitcoin wallet, if you’re feeling charitable and would like to make a donation. Why should you make a donation, you ask? Well, I don’t know…but I can always find a good use for money 🙂

Anyway, time marches on. I had a really good interview yesterday at East Tennessee State University. Hoping not to jinx myself, but at the same time, I’m very hopeful that they’ll move positively on it. Teaching is what I set my sights on almost six years ago, when I decided to leave law enforcement. While I still miss playing cops-and-robbers sometimes, it became clear to me at the time that I had to move on. Being able to teach at my alma mater would simply be awesome! So, dear readers, feel free to send all the karma and good vibes you can my way.

On the home front, I’ve slowed down a bit on the improvements. I still have a lot of things I want to get done, but after the big surge this Spring, I’m a little tired. There’s always stuff to do when you own a home, so at this point, I’m back to pacing myself. The driveway has been patched and will be sealed in a couple of weeks. Then, John and I are going to replace the edging and replenish the mulch in the weed bed. I still plan on painting the interior doors and replacing the door knobs that require replacement. But after that, I think I’m going to take a breather. Until next Spring.

So far, the Summer has been pretty good. Decent weather, not much going on, other than the above-mentioned home tasks. I’m still doing a lot of self-study, filling in gaps in my CS knowledge and skills. The new office is very conducive to this task — I haven’t wasted too much time on World of Warcraft 🙂

This is my new project pc/coin miner. I just happened to have a 40″ flat screen tv that I wasn’t using, which makes a spanking monitor!

As I also mentioned above, I’ve been dabbling a bit with Bitcoin and its myriad alternatives the past couple of months. It’s an interesting concept, which, frankly, I don’t entirely understand. But I’ve got one dedicated machine and my project machine (when I’m not using it for other things) chugging away as part of a pool. My earnings to date total almost $100 (minus whatever electricity it has cost to run the machines 24/7). But as the price of Bitcoin rises (hopefully – and from what I’ve read, it is expected to), the effort could pay off. Today, I also started a little speculating to see if I can raise the bar a little. Most likely, though, it’ll just be another interesting diversion among many that I have found to keep myself out of jail.

I keep trying to find things in the news of interest to comment on, but these days it seems like everything is in overload…I feel as if I’m becoming desensitized with the state of modern media. And the “panic stories” from the fringe that keep flooding my Facebook feed are getting tiresome. So, I don’t know. Between Obama, IRS, NSA, Snowden, Bergdahl, Bengazi, Congress, SCOTUS, NRA, Bloomberg, mass shootings, mass shootings-that-really-weren’t, Reid, Bohner, Fluke, Pelosi, FLOTUS, China, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, drones, Clinton (both – and now Chelsea, apparently), Biden, legalize it, don’t legalize it, pro-life, pro-choice, the national debt, doomsdayers, preppers, FEMA, wildfires, earthquakes, storms, amnesty, vote-rigging, global warming, Uncle Sam, Uncle Ted, hacking, fracking, pipelines, Fox, MSNBC, The Blaze, The Onion, and hubris in general, it’s hard to know where to begin. So I’m going to pass for now.

Happy travels, all!
