This Masquerade…

masqueradeNo real reason for the title. Well, yeah, that’s the song that’s playing on my stream at the moment. No other significance, though.

So, the semester’s begun. Things are looking good so far, though we’ve only had one class meeting so far. My sysadmin class is really small, which usually makes for a great semester with them. The other two are bigger, which isn’t a problem. I always look forward to getting to know students in those classes, too.

The holiday break was great. I got a lot done and learned a lot that I can pass on to my classes, which is cool. Thinking about covering JavaScript and jQuery earlier in the semester than I have been, so we can use it more in lab and projects. I think more practice with JS and jQ would be good for the students. It’s sure been great for me over the past few months.

I’m still working on the Kanban board project. I’m migrating its architecture to use a database backend instead of trying to store everything in a flat-file format. The original version is too fragile and prone to electronic hiccups. So I’ve got v2.0 to the point now where I can create, edit, and delete jobs. At the moment, I’m working on card and row positioning and storage. Not an earth-shattering thing, surely, but it keeps me occupied when I’m not doing course preparation stuff.

don't make me thinkI started reading Steve Krug’s book, Don’t Make Me Think (Revisited), this morning. For those of y’all who don’t know, it’s a seminal book about web design and design concepts. Looks pretty interesting. As always, I’m hoping it’ll give me more material that I can use to enrich my web development classes. I may have to buy the e-book, so I can lift screen shots for my lectures…

So there’s not much else going on in my life, atm. But that’s ok. The dogs are hanging in there; the fish surviving (dammit – I really want to get rid of the aquarium). Millie’s mostly living inside, now, while the other two split time between the back porch and the garage. Misty, the older one, is slowly getting more and more lame, but she seems happy. So I’m reluctant to have her put down. Zoe, the ‘gift’ from an ex-girlfriend, is as much of a pain in the ass as ever. She’s a Tasmanian Devil who did over $1000 damage to the fence around my back yard before my idiot neighbors called the cops on her for getting loose. Now, she’s on a cable :/

Well, I guess I’ll get back to my ‘regularly scheduled programming.’ Just felt like checking in real quick here. Ta!
