OK, here’s a link to the YouTube version of MM’s slapping down Tamara Holder on Hannity (posted on 7/25). STFU! (just sayin’) 🙂 The sad but serious side of this thing is that the debate was over a big city mayor, Michael Bloomberg, and his interview with Piers Morgan in which he said, “I don’t understand why the police officers across this country don’t stand up collectively and say, ‘We’re going to go on strike. We’re not going to protect you. Unless you, the public, through your legislature, do what’s required to keep us safe.'”
The Mayor of New York City, home to the largest municipal police force in the USA, publicly urges police officers nationwide, certainly including his own city, to strike because he thinks we don’t have enough gun laws. Oh. My. God.
This is so wrong on so many levels, I hardly know where to begin. Ummm…how about, it’s illegal for cops in New York to strike. So he’s an elected public official who’s urging law enforcement officers to break the law. Not to mention, what is going to happen to his city, the one he was elected to serve, when its police officers, the ones who are employed to protect the selfsame people who elected him, refuse to do their jobs in accordance with his petulant, whiny, knee-jerk reaction to the tragedy in Colorado? It’s pretty much assured that after a few hours of that, Bloomberg will probably find himself in the unemployment line come next election. If not jail, because, oh yeah! — it is also a criminal offense for an elected official to try to incite police to strike. Wow. Just. Wow.
MB of course later back-paddled, no doubt in response to his legal counsel ripping him a new anal orifice for his blatant and public stupidity. Or perhaps the counsel simply told him to stop using that particular orifice to conduct his speech-making (yeah, like, that’ll happen). But the words were said and he’s once again proven what a party hack he really is, if not necessarily a smart one.
