Quotable Quotes

quill penI’m thinking about reviving the old quotes section of my website.  As I explained years ago, I used to love getting Reader’s Digest magazine. While almost invariable I would end up reading everything in it, I always started with all of the “Quotable Quotes” sections:  Quotable Quotes, Laughter, the Best Medicine, Humor in Uniform, All in a Day’s Work, etc.  Then, of course, after each article, there was usually a funny quote or story also.  So on the older iteration of this website, I started a section that I wound up devoting a great deal of time to that ultimately became quite large and included many quotes from many people I’ve come to admire over the years.  I’m not sure how I’m going to structure it, but I think it’ll again be a separate section instead of mixing it in with the daily posts.  I’m sure I can do that in WordPress.  Unfortunately, at the moment, I can’t access the archive where the old website files are for some reason.  It isn’t showing up on my network, and I’m too comfortably ensconced in my recliner to get up and walk across two rooms to check it out.  My phone is in my bedroom, too ~sigh~

**********************************  NOTE  ***********************************
It is entirely possible that some of the quotations in this section are mis-attributed.  I culled most of these off the Internet (with the remainder coming from memory, which may be even more unreliable).  I concede that it is important to attribute people’s words accurately, but I am not a scholar and include quotations simply because the interest, amuse, enrage, and/or spark a sympathetic response in my psyche.  Any mistakes made in this section are my own and I hope that any “quote-nazis” out there will leave me alone!

A good example:  “We sleep safely in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would harm us” is often attributed to George Orwell, but more likely is a summary of Orwell’s view on the matter actually written by columnist Richard Grenier.  Either way, I committed a significant portion of my adult life to being one of those “rough men” whoever the correct author was referred to.  The quote strikes a nerve for me.  And thus I share it.
